Lisbon, Portugal (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Benfica moved to the top of the Portuguese Liga on Sunday after a 4-0 win at Uniao Leiria. Benfica and FC Porto entered the weekend level on 33 points, but after Porto was held to a 0-0 draw at Sporting Lisbon on Saturday, Benfica took advantage and moved two points clear of Porto with the big win.

Rodrigo then secured the win with two goals in the span of three minutes to keep Benfica unbeaten in 14 games this season.

In Sunday's other matches Nacional handed Gil Vicente a 3-0 defeat for its first win in five games, Maritimo remains in the top five after a 2-1 triumph over Olhanense, which lost for the third straight time, Rio Ave topped Pacos Ferreira 1-0 on a penalty kick from Joao Pataco Tomas in the first half, while Marcelo Toscano's goal in the 53rd minute helped Guimaraes to a 1-0 win against Feirense.

Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Veteran goalkeeper Jon Conway retired Tuesday, ending his 12-year Major League Soccer career. Conway, 34, started his career with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2000, and won two MLS Cups before he left the club after the 2005 season. Conway then played for Red Bull New York, Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire later in his career.

"It's been a pleasure to witness the growth of the sport and the league in the United States."

London, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - QPR confirmed Tuesday that Mark Hughes has been appointed as the club's new manager. Hughes, 48, signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Loftus Road, replacing Neil Warnock after he was sacked as boss on Sunday.

"It's a great feeling to be back in football and to be the Manager of QPR," Hughes told the club's official website. "I'm fully aware of the challenge in the short and long term and I am genuinely excited about the ambition of the owners."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Scott's one of the most exciting talents in Scottish football," Hodgson said, "so why shouldn't he be part of our immediate top-flight plans?

"But certainly, he'll come into the first-team squad straight away and we'll see what impact he can make."

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.

Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.

El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.

MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds

Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.

New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.

Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
